French Giltwood and Green Painted Wedding Mirror with Beaded Frame, circa 1920
$1,995
Elegant and refined, this early 20th-century French giltwood wedding mirror dates to around 1920 and features a distinctive combination of soft green painted trim and a richly gilded inner molding with beaded detail. Rectangular in form, the mirror captures the quiet sophistication of the French interwar period—balancing neoclassical ornament with a simple, architectural frame.
Originally intended as a wedding gift, such mirrors were traditionally presented to newlyweds as a symbol of light and prosperity for the home. The gilt surface has developed a warm, mellow patina over time, while the surrounding green paint offers a graceful contrast that enhances the depth of the frame. The inner gilt bead border reflects the delicate craftsmanship typical of provincial French ateliers of the early 20th century.
This mirror retains its original wood backing, and the glass shows light signs of age consistent with its period, adding to its authenticity and charm. Perfect for use in a hallway, bedroom, or dressing area, this piece adds a touch of understated luxury and historical character to both classic and contemporary interiors.
