American Folk Art Carved Heron Pedestal Stand, Circa 1940

The carving has a rustic, handmade quality, with a dark painted trunk, exposed golden-toned details, and a weathered painted surface that gives the piece strong character. The heron is rendered with a long neck, slender beak, incised wing detail, and thin legs, adding charm and movement to the composition. Particularly charming are the bird’s inset glass eyes, which bring animation and character to the carving.

With its tall, narrow silhouette and nature-inspired design, this stand would work well in a garden room, sunroom, entryway, covered porch, or eclectic interior. It is both functional and sculptural, bringing a distinctive mid-20th-century folk art presence to a room.
